Mr. Uriel Kertesz was appointed to the Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director effective the 14th of January 2013 and became the Chairman of the Board effective the 10th October 2018 Uriel is a Hungarian/Israeli entrepreneur and accomplished administrator of international repute, having over 40 years of experience. Managed & supervised the execution of various engineering and business projects in Israel, Hungary, Nigeria and SA and more.

   

Group /CEO

Mr. James Judson was appointed the Group/CEO and a member of the Board of Directors effective the 3rd of February 2020.

James is an experienced senior business leader who has enjoyed a 30-year FMCG based career with PZ Cussons International PLC in various leadership roles around the world.

A Marketing professional by training, James has worked in Europe, Asia and most recently for over 14 years in Africa. His roles in Africa included 3 years as Supply Chain Director in Nigeria, 8 years as Managing Director / CEO of PZ Cussons Ghana and 3 years as part of the Global Marketing Leadership team, responsible for the entire African Home and Personal Care Category & Brand Strategy for PZ, based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Ronald is a founding Partner and Head of sub-Saharan Africa at Affirma Capital. Prior to Affirma Capital, he was Managing Director and Head of Africa for Standard Chartered Private Equity’s (“SCPE”) Africa division which was established in 2008. Affirma Capital, a newly formed, independent emerging market private equity firm owned and operated by the long-standing former senior leadership of SCPE, provides equity funding for expansions, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts and management buyouts and considers equity investments from USD30 million to USD150 million in a single transaction. The Affirma Capital Africa team has invested over USD800 million in businesses in the telecommunications, banking, retail, manufacturing, energy, agriculture and consumer goods sectors across the continent. Prior to joining SCPE Africa in 2008, Ronald spent 6 years at Goldman Sachs in the U.S. before relocating to Africa from his role as a Senior Associate within the U.S. investment giant’s investment banking division.

Ibrahim Assem is the Head of Private Equity for the Middle East & Africa at Ashmore Group. Ibrahim joined Ashmore in 2008 from Weather Investments in Paris, where he was a Senior Manager in their corporate finance division. Prior to this he had M&A roles at Deutsche Bank in London, Orascom Telecom in Cairo and with Merrill Lynch in London.

Ibrahim has an MBA from New York University and a BSc in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo.

Derek is currently an Investment Professional at Affirma Capital. Prior to Affirma Capital, he was a Director at Standard Chartered Bank’s Africa Private Equity business. He is an emerging market investment professional with over 10 years of diversified experience in origination, deal execution, portfolio management and exit, corporate finance and principal investing in Africa.

Derek is directly responsible for managing around USD450 million of invested capital under an USD850 million Africa fund. He has broad sector knowledge particularly across the power sector value chain, manufacturing, financial services and telecoms sectors. He previously worked in investment banking at Vetiva Capital Management Limited. He currently sits on the boards of four portfolio companies and is the Chairperson of the GZI Board Audit and Risk Committee.

Lara is an Investment Professional at Oppenheimer Partners. Prior to joining OP, Lara held the position of Chief Financial and Operating Officer at African Leadership Academy for 6 years, co-shaping the strategic direction and establishing a strong financial and sustainability position for the organization. She has also previously held various positions in the banking and healthcare industries, most recently at Bank of America and McKesson Corporation.

Lara holds an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Yifat is a Partner, Corporate Strategy with BDO Consulting. 20 years of experience in strategic consulting, Dealing with strategic dilemma, formulating growth strategies and turnarounds. Formulating strategic guidelines, identifying suitable entities and accompanying mergers and acquisitions. Accompanying the implementation of the consolidated strategic plan. Identify investors and investments and accompanying the transaction.

Specialization in strategic consulting for business entities, holding companies, and profit centers. In various fields such as logistics, agriculture, industrial plants (metal, plastics), security, food, services.

Yifat holds BA in Economics (cum laude), an MBA in Finance and Marketing, both in Tel Aviv University, Israel

   

Executive Director / Group Chief Financial Officer

Ayodeji is a Chartered Accountant with 14 years of experience in Finance, Administration & Management.

Prior to joining GZI, he was the Group Head of Finance for Forte Oil Plc where he was responsible for the finance function of the Group’s downstream, upstream services and power generating businesses in Nigeria and the downstream business in Ghana. He also worked with Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd where he was responsible for the financial reporting and tax functions of the entity.

Ayodeji holds a B.Sc in Industrial and Labour Relations from the Olabisi Onabanjo University and an M.sc in Accounting from Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State Nigeria. He has attended executive management programs at the University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton School, Aresty Institute of Executive Education, USA.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). He is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, United Kingdom.

Taimoor Labib is a Founding Partner at Affirma Capital and Head of Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Private Equity and Chairman of Africa Private Equity. He is based in Dubai.

Prior to Affirma Capital, Taimoor was Head of Africa & Middle East Private Equity business for Standard Chartered Private Equity (SCPE) investing and overseeing an approximately $1.5 billion direct investment portfolio in leading companies across sectors throughout Africa and the Middle East. He joined SCPE in March 2010 as a Managing Director and currently or historically sat on the boards of Al Jazeera Poultry, CEC, Eaton Towers, FINE Hygienic (Vice Chairman), GZI, Topaz Energy & Marine, Souq.com (observer), and Union Bank of Nigeria.

Previously he was also Head of Global Private Equity Portfolio Management (2013-2016) overseeing the overall global portfolio throughout Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Taimoor has 22 years of direct private equity and investment banking experience with leading international and regional institutions, including deep relationships with leading family groups, regulators, sovereign wealth funds and limited partners.

Taimoor began his career with Bear Stearns investment banking in New York, and The Carlyle Group in Washington D.C. and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
